Line Next has announced a collaboration with Sega and the acquisition of a highly popular intellectual property (IP) for its blockchain gaming platform, Game Dosi.

Youngsu Ko, CEO of Line Next, expressed delight in partnering with Sega to bring exciting gaming experiences to the Web3 space worldwide. Through this collaboration, Game Dosi aims to offer accessible Web3 content for everyone, including avid Sega fans.

However, the specific IP that will be licensed has not been disclosed. While Sega permits third-party partners to develop NFT games utilizing certain franchises like Three Kingdoms and Virtua Fighter, it refrains from associating its most prominent characters with blockchain titles to prevent potential devaluation of its IP.

Line Next, a South Korean company operating under Line, a messaging service similar to WhatsApp, launched Game Dosi in May. It is a Web3 gaming platform that prioritizes user-centered and game-centric services.

Shuji Utsumi, co-chief operating officer at Sega, recently expressed his skepticism about play-to-earn games, referring to them as "boring" and questioning the future adoption of blockchain technology in the industry. However, Sega remains invested in the field, recognizing the possibility of it gaining more mainstream traction in the future.

Utsumi highlighted the need for careful assessment regarding blockchain's impact, acknowledging that although the ideas proposed by blockchain advocates may seem extreme to many in the video game industry, pioneering innovations often emerge from such unconventional approaches.
