Former Ultimate Fighting Championship dual-division champion Cejudo (16-3, 10-3 UFC) faced an unexpected outcome in Saturday's UFC 288 main event, as he lost a close split decision to bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling. Following the fight, Cejudo removed his gloves in the octagon and hinted at possibly retiring from MMA. However, a few hours later, he declared on Twitter his desire to compete once more, specifically against Sterling's teammate and close friend Merab Dvalishvili.

Cejudo stated, "This is far from over. Dana White, I want [Dvalishvili's] head on a plate."

Dvalishvili (16-4, 9-2 UFC), nicknamed "The Machine," quickly responded to Cejudo's challenge. Currently on a nine-fight winning streak, Dvalishvili could potentially compete for the championship but has expressed reluctance to face his teammate Sterling, as they both represent the Serra-Longo Fight Team. However, he is eager to take on Cejudo.

Dvalishvili replied, "Let's go! I will take another of Sterling's leftovers... for now!"

Cejudo proposed the matchup take place at UFC Boston, which is rumored to be scheduled for August 19. While the UFC has not yet confirmed the event, it is expected to include a bantamweight showdown between former champion Cody Garbrandt and Mario Bautista.
